Winchester welcomes the new Skoda Superb

The residents of Winchester have given a warm welcome to the new Skoda Superb during a special event hosted at the Watercress Line steam railway in sleepy Alresford.

Winchester Motor Company and Garland Motors organised the big day and gave Skoda fans the chance to test-drive the new Superb and enjoy a free ride on the railway.

Over 100 people attended and rubbed shoulders with guests such as the Mayor and Mayoress of Rushmoor.

As if that wasn’t enough incentive to turn up, Winchester and Garland showcased a vintage Skoda 422 alongside the company’s latest model.

Peter Davidson, general manager at Garland Motors, certainly enjoyed the big day. He said: "Our theme was ‘old technology meets new technology’ which went down really well with everyone, especially the buffet and rides on the steam train.

"We placed two retail orders on the day and are anticipating a fleet order of six Superbs as a result.”

The new Superb boasts the unique ‘twin door’ function. Twin door allows the user to press a button to have both a hatch and saloon style boot.

Skoda’s flagship hatchback goes on sale today

Skoda has confirmed that its eagerly anticipated hatchback, the New Superb, will be launched across the country today.

Offering excellent value for money at £15,490, the New Superb will tempt buyers with an array of exciting new features.

The model will be available with the option of three petrol and three diesel engines, from the standard 1.9 TDI PD 105 bhp to the more exhilarating 3.6 V6 260 bhp 4×4 DSG.

Skoda’s brand director, Robert Hazlewood, said on launch day: "The New Superb is our most ambitious car to date and testimony to our brand’s confidence in the competitive upper medium market. It combines value for money, interior space and engineering solutions designed with the customer in mind in a fantastic package."

Used Skoda customers shouldn’t have to wait too long to get their hands on a model, and can look forward to a value-for-money car with an impressive design and superb build quality.

The New Superb should appeal to car buyers on a budget – insurance groups on the entry level diesel start at 6E, while the entry level petrol starts at 7E.

New Skoda gets superb insurance ratings

The new Skoda Superb has been awarded impressive insurance ratings, helping it to become one of the most competitively rated cars in the upper medium sector.

An insurance rating of 6E is now carried by the entry diesel 1.9 TDI PD 105bhp engine on the S trim Superb, more than three positions better than the outgoing Superb, thereby cutting the cost of car insurance for its new owners.

A lower rating has also been achieved by the entry petrol 1.4 TSI 125bhp which sits in insurance band 7E across all three trim levels.

Chris Horrell, product marketing manager at Skoda UK, said: "The new Superb has achieved much improved ratings thanks to enhanced vehicle security, competitive pricing and low cost of parts and repairs. All of these factors contribute to lower insurance premiums for our customers."

Skoda’s latest addition has fared exceptionally well compared to other car brands.

The car will be on sale in the UK from September 18th, with prices starting from just £15,490.

Prices released for New Superb options

Details have been released of the prices for the first range of options on Skoda’s New Superb, which is due to be launched in September.

For the first time, a Skoda vehicle will have the option of coming with a system which helps to steer a car into a parking space. The Park Assist will be available on the SE and Elegance models for £350, as well as on the entry level S model for £630.

Other functions which come as options include a steering wheel which has radio and telephone controls, Bluetooth GSM III compatibility and DSG gearbox with paddles.

The S and SE trim level vehicles can also come with a tyre pressure monitor on request, while rear side airbags can be fitted on all New Superb models for £250.

Regardless of trim levels, though, all New Superb cars will come with ESP, Twindoor, seven airbags, front and rear electric windows and alloy wheels as standard.

Prices for the standard specification, which will be available from the 18th of next month, start at £15,490.

Skoda retailer John Mullholland recently finished as the fastest diesel-powered car driver in his Rally Skoda Fabia at the Manx International Rally.

Skoda announces sales success

Skoda has announced that 2007 has been a successful year for the Czech automaker.

The firm commented that its Superb model has already sold the same amount over the past nine months as it did in the previous 12.

Similarly, the Fabia has enjoyed sustained success this calendar year, with 174,327 drivers picking up keys to the car.

In September, the company sold 56,384 units, contributing to the 462,429 it has sold throughout the world in 2007 and marking its second-most successful month since 1991.

Skoda added that it had done particularly well domestically.

"To date Skoda has sold a total of 102,796 vehicles in central Europe which include the sales in Skoda’s home market of the Czech Republic," the company commented.

Meanwhile, the firm has announced that it will be manufacturing a new Superb model for release in 2008.

The car will be publicly unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
