Don’t blink!

On Sunday June 1st, television watchers will be able to share in the live broadcast from the Mojave Desert, California, showing a large team of skydivers attempting to form shapes including a suspension spring, a camera and a steering wheel that hint at new technologies on the Honda Accord.

On Thursday May 29th, 19 sky divers spelled out the word ‘A C C O R D’ and this will be re-broadcast as part of the advertisement which is called ‘Jump’ and is to emphasise the message ‘Difficult Is Worth Doing’.

"The campaign has been difficult, but it was definitely worth doing!" says Harry Cooklin, marketing communications manager of Honda (UK).

"We are always looking to move the boundaries when it comes to our advertising, and so being involved in the UK’s first truly live TV advert is perfect for us. It provides the ideal platform to take us into the final phase of the Accord campaign."

The new Accord, first launched in 1976, features Honda’s Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS), which works in conjunction with the LKAS lane centring detector, ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and Motion Adaptive EPS which detects cornering or braking instabilities. It will debut in saloon and tourer models, which used two design teams to compete with each other to ensure maximum features for the motorist. It also has redesigned comfy and supportive front seats.

Honda strikes with new Accord

Honda is looking to steal a march on its rivals with the launch of its new Accord.

The revamped model is wider and slightly lower than its predecessor, with a sportier feel.

All engines are fully compliant with Euro 5 emission standards, while the diesel model will be the first to feature Honda’s i-DTEC second-generation engine.

The i-DTEC boasts more efficient gas circulation, multi-stage fuel injection and a particulate filter for lower emissions.

Honda says that the lower centre of gravity offered by the new Accord will provide better handling and an improved driving experience.

A number of safety features, including Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), are standard across the range.

Honda celebrates 30 years of the Accord

Honda has paid tribute to the success its Accord vehicle has had in the UK over the last 30 years.

The company launched the car in Britain in 1977 and has seen it become a big hit among corporate buyers.

It stated that today 62 per cent of all sales in the UK go to fleet users, with the numbers being bought by firms going up by five per cent year-on-year.

Harvey Hughes, manager of corporate operations at Honda in the UK, commented on the success of the range, which has now reached its seventh generation and will welcome an eighth next year.

"We have a growing customer base and the popularity of Accord has helped to drive this," said the official.

The Accord originally debuted as a compact vehicle and has enjoyed several different body styles, although it is primarily an intermediate vehicle.

Honda to roll out Accord Tourer Concept

Honda will unveil its Accord Tourer Concept at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

The car signals a new design direction for the next generation Accord, featuring a lower, wider look signalling a sporty style from the manufacturer.

While drivers in the UK will have to wait until the middle of 2008 before they can get their hands on the vehicle, it will be on display at the motor show on September 11th 2007 between 13:15 BST to 13:45 BST where it will be accompanied by a number of environmentally-friendly vehicles from the firm.

"This will include the Small Hybrid Sports Concept – first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this year – which demonstrates the rare fusion of advanced hybrid technology and exciting sports car characteristics," the company stated.

The Tokyo-based manufacturer also deals in motorcycles, marine equipment, electronic generators and robotics.

Honda launches two new Accord models

Honda will be launching two new versions of its Accord model in September, a move it hopes will help the brand "battle for honours" in the D sector saloon market.

The first new model is the Sport GT, which is reportedly the result of consultation with dealers suggesting that buyers want a car that combines technology with sporting features.

Consequently, the new Accord features a voice-activated sat-nav system, Bluetooth compatibility, cruise control, sports suspension, a rear spoiler and alloy wheels in a dark graphite finish.

The other variant added to the Accord range is the SE, which has been developed specifically to act as a "price fighter" and will be available for £18,600 on-the-road.

A 2.2-litre diesel engine will power the model, while 16-inch alloy wheels, stability assist and Bluetooth compatibility will also be on offer.

Commenting on the SE, Bernard Bradley, head of sales for Honda UK, said: "This new keenly-priced car continues the theme of Accord, which has always been to offer a high-spec saloon with the quality you’d expect from a Honda – but at an extremely competitive price, with low running costs.

"If you’re talking about value for money, the Accord SE beats most cars in the sector, even the new arrivals."
