A new survey conducted by Citroen has examined the trials of the British motorists’ rush hour journey – the findings of which seem to support the need for the company’s Stop & Start technology.
Stop & Start is available on the Citroen C2 and C3 superminis and aims to minimise CO2 emissions by turning off the car’s engine when stationary.
Independent trials have shown a Stop & Start vehicle can save up to 27 per cent in urban driving conditions.
There seems to be a great call for it as Citroen’s most recent survey discovered that traffic congestion in five major city centres – London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Norwich and Manchester – seems to be worse than ever.
The average commuter is stationary for 25 minutes – 42 per cent of the time – during a typical hour-long journey in which they travelled just 12.9 miles.
London drivers covered almost twice as many miles as they did two years ago – 13.2 compared to 2006′s 6.8 – yet were stationary for around five minutes longer.
New special editions have been added to the C1 and C3 Pluriel ranges, Citroen has announced. The code editions will add to the existing C2 code model.
The black metallic paint, and alloys, are enhanced with top of the range leather upholstery, chrome interior trim and smart black livery.
The Pluriel also features a fully retractable electric roof.
The 3-door and 5-door C1 models retail for around £8,000 and the C3 Pluriel retails at just under £13,000.
Drivers who like to listen to their favourite playlists while on the road might be interested in the new special edition Citroen C2 Airplay+.
A recent promotion from the manufacturer means that buyers of the new model will have a four-gigabyte iPod Nano at their fingertips, complete with an in-car docking station so songs can be piped through the speakers and into the vehicle.
Other features of the special-edition Citroen include air conditioning and remote-control central locking, which may all contribute to a pleasurable and comfortable drive.
Financing for the vehicle is also on offer for a limited period this summer, aimed at helping younger motorists purchase their first car.
Meanwhile, those who like their vehicle to be a fabulous colour can choose from sunshine yellow, arctic silver or black for the C2 Airplay+, which could make it a great investment for new and existing drivers alike.
Headquartered in Paris, Citroen has been around since 1919 and is now part of PSA Peugeot Citroen.
Citroen has announced that it is making it "even easier for drivers to get behind the wheel of a brand new C2", with the introduction of free insurance for a year on sport versions of the car.
This offer is available until the end of July and can be taken up by drivers as young as 19.
Motorists of this age can access the deal on the 1.1-litre petrol Furio, for those over 21 it will apply to 1.4-litre petrol and diesel versions, while buyers aged 25 and over will be offered a year’s free insurance on VTR, VTS, By Loeb and Code models.
Outlining the appeal of its supermini range, Citroen said: "All sport-styled C2 models combine devilishly dynamic poise with a sporty design that incorporates a rear spoiler, front fog lights and body coloured bumpers and side skirts."
The manufacturer also described the interior aesthetic of the car as "vibrant", with sport-style seats and a leather steering wheel.
A chrome exhaust pipe, alloy wheels, aluminium pedals and a chrome effect gearknob all come as standard on C2 sport models.
Citroen has unveiled its new C2 Code special edition – an updated version of its C2 1.6i model.
The 16V supermini has been enhanced with a full leather interior as well as sporty styling touches and an exclusive paint job on the outside.
"Unique" and "athletic" are the descriptions given to the C2 Code’s appearance, which is characterised by a full-length roof stripe, chrome exhaust pipe, 16-inch alloy wheels and a choice of iron grey pearlescent or dynamic black paintwork.
Inside the car are sports-style, bolstered seats with heating for the front occupants and door panels coated with a leather trim.
The new C2 Code also boasts an aluminium gearknob and an independently sliding, folding split rear seat design.
A 1.6i, 16V engine, capable of reaching 62mph in just over eight seconds and a top speed of 126mph, powers the vehicle and delivers an economy rate of 41mpg on a combined cycle.
These updates come with all the regular standard equipment, including air conditioning, electric one-touch front windows, ESP, four airbags and an anti-theft alarm.
