30/07/2008 Brake upgrade reduces stopping distance on Aston Martin DB9

Owners of Aston Martin’s DB9 can now put the brakes on with even more confidence thanks to a new upgrade.

Caparo is the company responsible for the car’s new high-performance brake upgrade package which promises to cut stopping distances, reduce fade under regular heavy braking and increase feel and consistency.

Nick Mennell, technical director for Caparo AP Braking, said: "Some owners have told us that particularly spirited drivers, including those taking part in track days, would like additional braking power.

"Our team of 18 braking engineers have developed an aftermarket upgrade kit that delivers what they need without adding extra weight or compromising performance while cold."

It certainly is a hot little package – the thermal capacity of the new discs has been improved, with an 18 per cent reduction in peak temperature.

Caparo has also altered the brake distribution with 63 per cent now being applied to the front brakes compared with 60 per cent under the previous set-up.

These improvements delivered a significant 24 per cent reduction in stopping distance during testing, giving owners greater control over their Aston Martin.

Prices for Caparo’s DB9 brake kit start at £970 for the rear kit and £1,570 for the front kit.
