BMW unveils Concept CS

BMW has unveiled its new Concept CS, which made its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show, and said that it showcases a "new design philosophy" for the brand.

The four-seat, four-door coupe "takes sophistication and luxury to a new level", according to BMW.

Compared to a standard 7-Series model, the Concept CS has been widened by 400mm and lengthened by 67mm, with the body width increasing towards the rear, a design employed to "emphasise the sporting pretensions" of the car.

A powerful five-litre engine powers the car, with air flow improved by a reworking of the classic kidney grille design.

Flared wheel arches accommodate the 21-inch light alloy wheels while door handles are fitted flush to the lower window ledge, meaning that the car’s bodywork appears uninterrupted.

The Concept CS’ cabin is described as "driver-oriented", with ceramic controls, updated ergonomics and sports seats that house the vehicle’s entertainment and communication features.

While the car is described as a "design study", BMW states that many of its features could appear on forthcoming models.
