Luxury car manufacturer Bentley has announced that 2007 was the best year in its history.

According to the firm, it saw its volume grow by seven per cent, with every major global market recording an increase.

It added that sales of the Arnage range went up by 44 per cent due to the popularity of the Azure car, while two-door Continental vehicles were selling at 57 per cent more than a year earlier.

British drivers picked up 2,079 Bentleys in total, while North American motorists bought 4,196, the firm’s figures show.

Stuart McCullough, member of the board of sales and marketing at the firm, called the results "a milestone".

He said: "With its combination of modern technology, craftsmanship and bespoke capabilities, Bentley occupies a leading position in the luxury vehicle market and expects to maintain that position into the future."
