New Audi TT is a ‘leap forward’
Audi has provided details of its new TT Roadster, describing the car as a "significant leap" in the evolution of the compact open-top sports car.
One of the most notable elements of the new car is its bodywork, according to Audi, which comprises 58 per cent aluminium and 42 per cent steel.
This composition is designed to keep the car’s weight down, allow full usage of the vehicle’s powerful petrol engine and maximise "dynamic potential".
Another weight-saving measure is the electro-hydraulically powered cloth hood. The four-cylinder version of the car weighs 1,295kg unladen.
Two petrol engines will be available with the new TT Roadster – a two-litre turbo FSI unit and a 3.2-litre V6 powerplant. The FSI versions of the car will be front-wheel drive operated while the 3.2-litre models will use Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system.
The TT Roadster will be characterised by new exterior design, including the quattro insignia on the front grille and boot lid, a high gloss finish to the front grille, chrome detailed headlamp surrounds and darkened rear light clusters.
Coming as standard with the new car will be 17-inch alloy wheels with the two-litre model and 18-inch ten-spoke wheels on the V6, as well as sports seats, electronic climate control, an mp3-compatible audio system and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

IMHO Audi should have kept the original shape - it was a design classic - and just improved the engines. The original shape was as iconic as the E-Type Jag.
