Audi has finally announced a launch date for its highly anticipated Audi R8, with the car thought to be a top-of-the-range rival for Porsche being released in July 2007.

Prices for the stunning looking R8 will start at £76,825 for the manual, rising to £82,025 for the ‘R tronic’ transmission.

The car utilises Audi’s advanced all-aluminium Audi Space Frame (ASF) construction, which is complemented by the German car manufacturer’s specialised Quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.

And with times of 0-62 in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 187mph, the lightweight aluminium body certainly offers a speedy entrance to the market along with a sleek design.

The car was developed from Audi’s Le Mans racing car of the same name, with the company using thousands of laps and hundreds of hours on the track to gain knowledge of what makes the sports car tick the best.

The lightweight sports car, which comes with a high-revving V8 engine, will begin UK deliveries in July.
