Alfa Romeo’s sporty new compact, the Alfa MiTo, promises to be "the perfect offspring" of the Alfa 8C Competizione, according to its maker.
The car has been built to attract a youthful, image-conscious audience though it has retained the element of practicality and high-performance that have made used Alfa Romeos so popular.
There will be three high-specification models to choose from when the car goes on sale on January 24th – the Turismo, Lusso and Veloce.
Teardrop headlamps will greet people approaching the car from the front, with a V-shaped bonnet likely to make a memorable first impression.
In profile, the Alfa has what its makers describe as a "high waistline", conjuring up images of Simon Cowell’s dress sense, though the car’s flared wheel arches are likely to give it a more 70s feel.
The vehicle should score highly in the tactile stakes since its central console has a satin finish.
Prices will begin at £10,745 for the entry level Turismo, with the top-of-the-range Veloce having a price tag of £14,745.
