Alfa Romeo has looked forward to the UK debut of its 8C Competizione model at the Canary Wharf Motorexpo, describing the display as "a perfect example" of the brand’s new direction.

The automaker describes the sports car as "remarkable", with "head-turning good looks and dramatic performance".

Only 500 versions of the limited edition car were produced, 42 of which were allocated to the UK, and all were quickly snapped up. British buyers lucky enough to get their hands on one will receive their model early next year.

The carbon fibre, two-seater 8C Competizione boasts a 4.7-litre V8 engine delivering 450bhp.

Introducing the car, managing director of Alfa Romeo UK Christopher Nicoll said: "This is a perfect example of the new direction for Alfa Romeo on the international stage.

"The fact that we long ago sold our UK allocation is testament to our rich heritage of producing emotive and exotic performance cars."

The 8C Competizione will be on show at the Canary Wharf Motorexpo, which runs from June 11th to 17th, before heading to the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 22nd.

Alfa Romeo will also be showcasing the new 159 TI and the Spider convertible at the London event.
